Some Shnookals at the Shoreham General Store circa 1960

Growing up, I was incredibly lucky to have four siblings and a holiday house at Shoreham. Those long summer days spent as a mob on the beach were the best, and invariably on our way home, we’d stop at the Shoreham General Store. The day that this video was taken was unusual – for we had ice creams instead of our usual icy poles!

Don’t you just love the way my sisters and friend Linda piled into the back of the station wagon? No requirement for seat belts in those days! And why didn’t we wear thongs? Absent from this photo is baby brother Jim who was presumably somewhere with my mother. As for me, I’m glimpsed very briefly on the sideline, too concentrated on my ice cream to get into the car and into the video.
